We sat down with Cindy – a gymnastics extraordinaire and masters athlete – and asked her the pressing questions so you could get to know her a little better.
Member since: Summer 2021
Preferred class time: I am a morning workout person. I normally hit 6:40 AM but on Thursdays, I will get up extra early for 6 AM.
What the heck do you do outside of this place?
I am the Managing Director of a venture capital firm in St. Louis. We invest in really early-stage companies and help them grow! Like shark tank but with technology companies. Outside of work I spend a lot of time with my husband and dog – hiking, traveling and exploring coffee shops.
Frank’s favorite coffee shop… COMA Coffee
Fun fact about you
I was an exchange student in high school in Sweden. I used to be bilingual but my Swedish has really broken down over time. And yes, I do love IKEA – it’s actually a huge part of Swedish culture. My host family actually took me to IKEA for the first time while I was there.
Also – I am a comic book nerd. I got into it over the pandemic and it has been a great way to relax without just watching mindless TV.
What’s something not everyone knows about you?
Before getting into investing I was an EMT in an ER
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Cheeseburgers and chocolate (not together) – I can never get enough.
What’s a goal you’re working toward?
Right now I am just trying to improve across the board. Lately, I have been more consistent than ever. I am on track to hit four weeks of five classes a week!
What’s your favorite workout?
I don’t have a specific but anything where I get to run more than 400m makes me happy.
What’s the hardest fitness-related thing that you’re always working on?
HA. The list is long. Snatches and overhead squats are a significant challenge. I think strength in general is going to be my next focus area. I just got kipping pull ups, toes to bar and double-unders.
Eventually, I want to do a competition of some kind. I miss road and trail races so scratching the competitive itch would be great.
Why did you join Blues City?
I had been wanting to forever and I finally got brave enough to join a friend for a workout. (Shoutout to Sarah Garber!)
What’s your favorite part about Blues City (What? We had to ask!)?
The community! Everyone has a really great positive attitude and is in the gym to get better. I love starting my day with all of these happy, fit people!
I am very proud to be a BCA member. I love it and am incredibly grateful for my classmates. Y’all rock! Also, the question of the day at the beginning of class is one of my favorite things.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about starting CrossFit and/or joining BCA?
Do it! Everyone is so welcoming and comfortable working out with people of all fitness levels.
