We sat down with Kim and Hudson – a dynamic duo – in and out of the gym.
We asked them the pressing questions so you could get to know them both (and their family) a little better. We asked them both the same questions, and we must say, they’re clearly a phenomenal team together.
Members for how long:
Hudson: 6-ish months
Kim: 10-ish months
Preferred class time: 5:45 am (morning crew and proud of it!)
What the heck do you do outside of this place?
Hudson: I work for Bayer in their crop breeding organization, for fun, I brew beer, enjoy the outdoors, and play dungeons & dragons.
Kim: I’m a Speech-Language Pathologist. I work only a few days a week now and spend the rest of the week wrangling our 2 little ones! I love hiking, traveling and playing board/card games.
Fun fact about you
Hudson: I built a home bar with 8 taps. (so we know where the next BCA party will be…)
Kim: I love baking (all the breads, cookies and decorating cakes!).
What’s something not everyone knows about you?
Hudson: My childhood dream was to be on SNL and Whose line is it anyway.
Kim: That my signature dance move is the worm.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Hudson: Cookies
Kim: Trash reality TV
What’s a goal you’re working toward?
Hudson: I’d like to hit a muscle-up this year… but I’m not actively working on the movement at the moment.
Kim: All around to get stronger and smoother in all of the movements.
What’s your favorite workout?
Hudson: Anything with a heavy barbell and light on the cardio which is hard to come by with CrossFit.
Kim: Any metcons with pull-ups combined with short(ish) runs. Also, barbell cycling during strength portions.
What’s the hardest fitness-related thing that you’re always working on?
Hudson: Endurance
Kim: Consistency
Why did you join Blues City?
Hudson: My wife, Kim
Kim: Getting back into the Crossfit world, I watched the progress of Blues City opening from afar while living in northern Indiana and knew that if we moved back to STL that I would have to give it a try!
What’s it like working out together – as significant others?
Hudson: It’s the best part of my day: the 7-minute car ride to and from with no kids yelling in our ears is pure bliss.
Kim: It is great quality time away from the kids when we get to go together and even when we can’t go together, it’s fun getting to talk through our workouts/progress and have each other understand what we’re talking about!
How do you manage two youngsters while making time to get to the gym?
Hudson: Kim does tremendous planning for all aspects of our family’s life, and it helps keep us going.
Kim: There are a lot of moving parts but thankfully we’re both early risers and we can take turns going in the morning. We are also lucky enough to have a neighbor’s son who comes over a few mornings a week to hold down the fort while we get into the gym.
What’s your main motivator? What keeps you going when juggling all that gets tough?
Hudson: To be healthy and set a good example for my kids.
Kim: Overall health and being able to keep up with my kids for as long as I possibly can!
Your kids are in CrossFit kids… What do you love about sending them to that program?
Hudson: They are getting extremely positive exposure to exercise and fitness at such a young age. I hope that they continue enjoying it as they get older.
Kim: I love them getting to participate in an activity that we love so much. They are very proud of themselves doing CF kids and love telling people that they do CrossFit like Mommy and Daddy!
What’s your favorite part about Blues City (What? We had to ask!)?
Hudson: The new challenges we face every day and the fun competitive atmosphere. I also just really want to say thank you to each and everyone coach and athlete for always encouraging and pushing me every day. Everyone was so welcoming right from the start.
Kim: The amazing community! From day one everyone was extremely welcoming and encouraging. I am so thankful to have joined the BCA community and can’t imagine being as consistent with exercise and fitness at this stage of life without such a supportive community!
What would you tell someone who is thinking about starting CrossFit and/or joining BCA?
Hudson: Do it! Such a fun way to get in shape and stay motivated.
Kim: Absolutely do it! You cannot find a better community or a more fun atmosphere to exercise in.
