Taylor Streid Announces Huge News About Her 2020 CrossFit Games Season
Last week, there was huge news in the world of Blues City.
One of our community’s biggest leaders, Taylor Streid announced she’s joining the CrossFit Mayhem Independence team for the 2020 CrossFit Games season.
It’s a major accomplishment and an exciting way to follow up on her amazing performance in 2019, where she qualified for the CrossFit Games as an individual.
Let’s pause here for a second.
Because if you haven’t done CrossFit for several years or aren’t familiar with The Games, you probably have some questions.
Taylor is joining some elite company
The team Taylor is joining is a part of the CrossFit Mayhem affiliate gym located in Cookeville, Tennessee.
It’s the fittest CrossFit gym in the world. There’s no debate.
The gym was started by Rich Froning Jr., who won the CrossFit Games as an individual four times in a row from 2011 to 2014.
Rich now competes on CrossFit Mayhem Freedom, another team from the same gym (if that wasn’t clear from the name.) They’ve won the team competition at the CrossFit Games four out of the past five years, including this past year.
CrossFit Mayhem and the champions from the 2019 CrossFit Games
CrossFit Mayhem is also the home gym for Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey. Mat is the 4-time defending champ of the CrossFit Games on the men’s side, winning in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. And Tia — you guessed it — is the 3-time defending champ of the CrossFit Games on the women’s side.
To recap, CrossFit Mayhem has the current:
- Men’s CrossFit Games champion
- Women’s CrossFit Games champion
- Team CrossFit Games champion
The gym is so prolific that CNN wrote an article titled: How a Small US Town Became CrossFit’s Global Mecca.
Here’s the bottom line. Taylor is joining some of the most elite CrossFitters in the world. It’s an acknowledgment that Taylor is one of the best in the world.
What you need to know about the CrossFit Mayhem Independence team
CrossFit Mayhem Independence finished 4th in the team competition at the 2018 CrossFit Games.
Taylor’s teammates are Kristin Miller, Royce Dunne, and Chase Hill. Together, they’ll make up the Mayhem Independence roster for the 2020 season.
To qualify for the 2020 CrossFit Games, the team will need to win a CrossFit Sanctioned Event — commonly referred to as “Sanctionals.”
The first Sanctional they’ll compete at is The Australian CrossFit Championship. The competition starts on March 5, 2020, in Queensland, Australia.
